A one-car accident on Highway 60 near Lodi killed the driver early today.

At about 12:30 a.m., the Columbia County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call about a one-vehicle accident on Highway 60 near the intersection of Gluth Road.

Deputies found a 2005 Chevy Cavalier in the ditch of Highway 60 near the intersection of Gluth Road. The vehicle apparently was heading east on Highway 60 when it left the road, went airborne, entered the ditch and overturned, landing on the passenger side.

The driver, who was the only occupant, was unresponsive. Medflight was called to the scene, and the physician onboard Medflight pronounced the driver dead.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

The accident remains under investigation. It is undetermined if speed and/or alcohol were factors.

The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of family.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Lodi EMS, Lodi Fire Department, Lodi Shell, UW Medflight and the Columbia County Medical Examiner's Office.

What a tragedy... At 12:30AM... I would not doubt that booze was involved... and no seat belts...

Do not jump to comclusions... Seat belts are only a tool, and I have taled to TOW TRUCK PERSONAL, and THEY HAVE CUT SEAT BELTS OFF FROM PERSONS THAT DID NOT SURVIVE a crash. Seat Belts do NOT guarantee survival, like many persons beleive... Also, I am an advocate AGAINST DWI, ETC and a CDL DRIVER, but we can not ASSUME till the investigation is done... To assume, makes and ASS Out Of U and ME... Sorry to the family for the loss...
