Ward 8 Alderperson Becky Glewen was elected Beaver Dam’s 45th mayor on April 4 after defeating incumbent Tom Kennedy, who held the office for nine years.

Under Kennedy's leadership, there were significant changes in downtown Beaver Dam, some due to flooding that forced removal of 11 buildings. But the city also built a new police station and community center downtown and fostered development of two housing projects.

Glewen had served one year as an alderperson on the Common Council and worked with Green Valley Enterprises in Beaver Dam.

Her platform included attracting young people and their families to the city, revitalizing downtown and cleaning up the entry points into the city, among other things.

Glewen had been elected to the Dodge County Board of Supervisors at the same time she won her initial seat on the Beaver Dam Common Council. Prior to her mayoral election, she served on the city's Planning, Operations and Land Planning committees, and the county's Human Services and Health Department and Land Information committees.
