Vossekuil sworn-in

Mayville City Clerk Sara Decker swears in Ryan Vossekuil as the Mayville Police Chief, Nov. 9 in the Mayville City Hall, 15 S. School St.

Ryan Vossekuil is now the permanent Mayville police chief after he was sworn in Nov. 10 following months of contract disputes and the resignation of former Chief Christopher MacNeill, who was charged with misconduct in office.

Vossekuil began serving as the interim Mayville police chief in April. Vossekuil initially rejected the contract offered by the city, but public outcry resulted in a new contract being offered removing a 12-month probationary period that was part of the previous offer and increasing the salary to $73,400. In addition, Vossekuil will attend police chief training and other training as needed. The council will review his status July 1.

MacNeill resigned March 31 after previously being placed on paid administrative leave Feb. 9. He subsequently was found guilty of three misdemeanor charges and placed on probation for a year. The charges were related to changes he allegedly made to an investigation report.
