Explore Badger Day on Sept. 23
The Sauk Prairie Conservation Alliance will host an Explore Badger Day Sept. 23 starting at 9 a.m. with a guided hike, or use the new “Visitor Guide to the Badger Lands” to hike any of a number of marked trails on the Sauk Prairie Recreation Area property. Another group will bike around the newly marked trails.
There will be two bus tours around the property from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 1:30 to 4 for $10. Reserve a spot by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with tour time and number of passengers. Learn about little known historical and ecological places on the property; see where the Ho-Chunk land and USDA Dairy Research Center property are located. See where the glaciers marked the land and hear their stories. Meet the Great Sauk Trail, which crosses the property on its way to Devil’s Lake.
The Alliance and volunteers will work on the restoration projects on the prairie from 9 a.m. to noon; to work, wear long pants and work shoes.
The Badger History Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with displays and photos of the ammunition production years and the days of settlement by immigrants from Europe. For more information, visit saukprairievision.org.
