The Baraboo cross country teams tested themselves in their final regular-season meet of the season.

The Thunderbirds traveled outside of their area to take on 17 teams in the Viking Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran at McCarty Park in West Allis. The Baraboo boys compiled 196 points to place eighth, while Oconomowoc used a team score of 68 to win the boys title.

Silas Patten led the way for the T-Birds. The senior crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 1.39 seconds to place 18th out of 126 runners in the 5,000-meter race. Garrett Exo (17:09.78) added a 23rd-place finish, while Matt Lane (17:17.04) took 29th, Liam Taber (17:52.05) took 56th and Ethan Agren (18:10.34) took 71st to round out Baraboo’s scoring.

Jasper Swallen (76th, 18:20.70), Alec Schmelzer (101st, 18:49.88) and Max Statz (110th, 19:18.35) also ran for the T-Birds.

On the girls side, Baraboo ran into tough competition as the T-Birds finished in 13th place with 310 points. Divine Savior Holy Angels took the title (25), followed by Menomonee Falls (62), Kettle Moraine (96), Wisconsin Lutheran (134) and Milwaukee King (157) to round out the top five.

Junior Vita Patten led the way for Baraboo with a 41st-place finish out of 120 runners, crossing the line with a time of 21:21.33. Freshman Venna Krayer had a breakout performance, taking 64th with a 22:10.96, while Molly Stewart was two spots behind (22:14.67). Other Baraboo finishers included Bella Urben in 70th (22:21.47), Cece Oettinger in 74th (22:36.76), Aria Schindler in 79th (22:41.54), Abby Kingcade in 98th (23:08.55) and Kennadi Snow in 102nd (23:28.6).

Baraboo will host the Badger North Conference meet next Saturday.
