REEDSBURG — Keith R. Pelton, age 85, of Reedsburg, died on Thursday, July 29, 2010 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on Jan. 23, 1925 in the Town of Winfield, Sauk County, the son of Nye and Alice (Brooks) Pelton. On April 16, 1949, he was married to the former Vera E. Bass. Keith was a lifelong area farmer. He had served as chairman for the Town of Winfield for several years and also served on the Reedsburg Area Ambulance Board. Keith was also treasurer for the Reedsburg Westfield Mutual Insurance Company for many years and was a member of the Reedsburg United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, going for rides, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Vera; five children: Jill (Wayne) Streekstra of Sun Prairie; Jane (Jim) Leverance of Brooklyn; Nye (Christy) Pelton of Bertrand, Neb.; Joe (Jill) Pelton of Lyndon Station and Peter (Laurie) Pelton of Reedsburg; 10 grandchildren, Jenna (Adrian), Kayla, Cody, Brock, Sarah, Nye, Anna, Joseph, Bethany and Evelyn; two brothers, Jim (Ardel) Pelton of Reedsburg and Lee (Bev) Pelton of Belmont; two sisters, Esther (Lewis) Massey of Burleson, Texas and Marian Higgins of Suffolk, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Holt of Baraboo and Elderine Brooks of Reedsburg; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Montross (Virginia) Pelton and Walter Pelton; one sister, Katherine Pelton; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Holt; Charles (Irene) Bass and Darrell Higgins; and one sister-in-law, Blanche (John) Keller.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Reedsburg with Pastor David Farina officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg and from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Reedsburg United Methodist Church, the Reedsburg Food Pantry or Friends of the Library would be appreciated.
