MADISON — The father of a woman who died from injuries sustained in a furnace and water heater explosion at her house in the town of Windsor filed a wrongful death suit last Wednesday against area businesses, including one from Beaver Dam, and two of their insurance companies.
Gordon Merry's daughter, Judith Merry, sustained burns and injuries when her propane furnace and water heater exploded on June 9, 2008, at her home in the town of Windsor. She died three days later at UW Hospital at age 49.
According to the suit, United Cooperative, Carrier Corp., A.O. Smith Corp. and Art's Heating and Cooling should have warned Merry about the need for propane gas detectors. Art's Heating and Cooling, of DeForest, allegedly performed negligent service work on the propane system not long before the explosion.
Representatives of United Cooperative, of Beaver Dam, and Art's Electric and Heating declined to comment.
