Silica Appliance and Electronics is celebrating a pair of anniversaries. Silica opened its doors near Fond du Lac in 1922 and the company is recognizing its 87 years of service with a sale which begins today and extends through Nov. 30. The Beaver Dam store, meanwhile, 1745 N. Spring St., is celebrating 20 years of service to the community. "It’s been a very happy time here," Beaver Dam store manager Tom Stephany said. "People here are very friendly and we hope we offer them a great service and great products at great prices." Silica began as a small hardware store and has evolved into providing major appliances, electronics and custom installation to their customers. The Beaver Dam store was originally located at 411 N. Spring St., but moved to its current location in 1996. Stephany has been with the company since 1978 and has managed the Beaver Dam story since it opened. "I really enjoy working with the smaller community here in Beaver Dam," Stephany said. "Many of our customers know us on a first-name basis." Through the years, Silica has adapted to many changes within the industry. Stephany pointed out that the transition to flat panel TVs has been exciting. "We are no longer just selling customers a television set," Stephany said. "Many people are creating their own theater style rooms in their homes with the newest technology in electronics. "We’ve expanded our product lines, we offer every brand that’s manufactured now and built our business on customer service. Before and after the sale, we offer the best service. That’s very important to us and always has been. That, along with competitive pricing is key to our business." Silica hopes to show customers some of that top-notch service starting today with its 20th anniversary sale. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
