Siomos joins Women's Health

Dr. Effie Siomos is a new OB/GYN at the Beaver Dam Women's Health Ltd, 707 S. University Avenue, suite 300, in Beaver Dam Community Hospital. Dr. Siomos is a physician who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology, with an interest in preventative and well-women care and minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Siomos emphasizes a focus on preventative care, especially when considering the role of women in today's society. "Women have so many different roles. I know - I'm the mother of two," she explained. "We want to help women become healthy in everyday life, and not just when they're having problems."

While completing her residency at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Siomos did research on diabetes and obesity, and it underscored the importance of women becoming healthy in all aspects of their lives. She also has the additional experience of a Masters of Science, Population Health.

At the UW, she was also awarded the Outstanding Medical Student Teaching Award. While she was recognized for teaching other medical students, she believes the honor highlights one of her strengths, communicating with patients. "The award shows that I can explain some of the very technical medical terms and procedures to patients in ways they can understand," she said.

Dr. Siomos will be part of a team that practices low risk and high risk obstetrics, including pre-conception care and minimally invasive surgery. "Women may not be aware of the fact that there are many minimally invasive surgical options available," she said.

Since moving to Beaver Dam from Madison, she's been pleased with the community and the many options she's finding available for her two children. "We're checking out the gymnastics and the YMCA," she said. "It's really a nice community."
