WAUPUN — Waupun Utilities, the city’s locally owned, nonprofit electric, water and wastewater utility, recently received the WPPI Energy Utility Leadership Award.

WU was selected to receive the award because of the utility’s dedication to innovation, leadership and customer service. A representative for the utility received the award Sept. 14 during WPPI Energy’s annual conference in Wisconsin Dells.

WU was one of the first WPPI Energy members to implement Advanced Metering Infrastructure. Once it finished its own implementation, it supported other member utilities making the transition to AMI, offering insights and assistance gained from experience. WU staff continues to evaluate and implement other technologies that will provide benefit to customers and make utility functions more efficient.

WU was one of the founding members of WPPI Energy. Throughout the organization’s history, WU employees have helped guide the direction of WPPI Energy initiatives through active participation on committees and advisory groups. General Manager Randy Posthuma serves on the WPPI Energy executive committee and chairs the Outage Management Task Force. Financial Manager Jared Oosterhouse, who last year received the WPPI Energy Shining Star Award, is a member of the Rates Services Advisory Group.

“The people we serve encourage us to be our best, and the support we get from the community helps us be a leader in the industry,” Posthuma said. “Without that support, we wouldn’t be able to tackle the projects that we do. We’re very grateful to have the community behind us.”
