CAMBRIA - The Cambria-Friesland School District hopes to make school registration more user-friendly for parents.
The Cambria-Friesland School Board learned about the changes at its July meeting.
The first registration date is set for Aug. 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The second date is set for Aug. 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. The district is also holding an open house on Aug. 27.
Hinden said that there will be tables set up in the gym, and that when families reach the end of the registration process, they can now write just one check for the lunch accounts and fees for their entire family. Hinden credited the secretarial staff with the idea.
Hinden said that summer school is about wrapped up, and that the migrant program, exercise and fitness class and band practice are still going on.
"It's been well-attended," Hinden said of summer school.
The board approved increasing the cost of breakfast and lunch by 10 cents per meal. Students who want to "super-size" a meal will be charges $1.
The board approved the purchase of $3,500 worth of video cameras that will be installed to cover the school entrances, hallways and parking lots. The district received the money for the cameras through a grant from the Old Mill Foundation. District staff members will install the cameras.
"It's a step in the right direction," said Hinden of the school installing security cameras.
Hinden said that the district has received about 20 applications for the new superintendent/sixth to 12th grade principal post.
The board will meet on Friday to review applications and decide who will be interviewed. The will meet on Aug. 10 to interview candidates.
