Fall fun on tap at county park

The volunteer Friends of Dodge County Parks invite everyone to attend the third annual Harnischfeger Park Fallfest taking place at Harnischfeger Park near Ashippun in southeast Dodge County on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Fallfest, organized by the Friends of Harnischfeger Park, will kick off with a Pancake and Eggs Breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m.

Activities during the day will again include an expanded buckskinner encampment with blacksmith, antique tractor and equipment display, free wagon rides, farm/craft market, children's crafts, a euchre tournament and live music and entertainment.

Music and entertainment will be provided by the Oconomowoc High School Jazz Combo,        the ZOJA Dance Troupe and Sheltered Reality drumming group.

New activities this year include a horseshoe tournament and educational presentations and displays.

Educational presentations will include "Master Gardening - Rain Gardens and Going Green" and "What is Geocaching?"

Baked goods, carmeled apples, concessions and more will be available throughout the day.

Proceeds from concessions and other receipts are used to help improve Harnischfeger Park facilities. Previous Fallfest profits have been used for barn preservation work, clubhouse window and door replacements and mini-golf course improvements.

"Harnischfeger Park is a great park with lots of great things to see and do. We put on Fallfest to provide a little extra encouragement for families to come out and experience all that the park has to offer," said Glenn Daily, event chairman. "It may also be one of the last nice weather opportunities to get the kids outside and away from the TV and video ga.m.es before winter sets in."

Fallfest 2008 is on the tails of the 'Take A Child Outside' ca.m.paign being observed nationally this week.

Harnischfeger County Park is located eight miles east of Watertown and two miles west of Ashippun in southeast Dodge County on the Rock River. The main park entrance is at W3048 Crawfish Road one-half mile south of Highway O.
