Teen car accident victim identified

By CITIZEN STAFF

TOWN OF ELBA -- The 17-year-old driver of a Pontiac G6 that rolled over several times in a crash northeast of Columbus died at the scene Sunday morning.

Owen Brumm was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Behan Road, four-tenths a mile west of Lange Road. Brumm's car was headed west on Behan Road when it went out of control on a curve and entered a ditch before overturning several times. Brumm was ejected from the vehicle.

Brumm was a senior at Fall River High School. He was recently a member of the Fall River homecoming court and was also a member of the junior prom court at the school last year.

The crash was believed to have happened after midnight Saturday, though it was reported to the Dodge County Sheriff's Department at about 7:45 a.m. by a local resident.

An autopsy is scheduled today in hopes of providing additional information on the time of Brumm's death, Dodge County Sheriff's patrol Capt. Molly Soblewski said.

Alcohol, speed and failure to wear a seat belt may have been factors in the crash, according to the sheriff's department.

Departments involved in the investigation were: Dodge County Sheriff's Department, Dodge County Crash Investigation Team, Wisconsin State Patrol, Columbus Police Department, Heartline EMS, Columbus Fire Department and Dodge County Medical Examiner.

Brumm is the latest in a number of recent accidents that have killed teenagers in Dodge County. Five young Beaver Dam residents died after getting into three different car accidents in the last six months.

Karissa Gerber-Lechman, 18, Justin Wickersham, 20, and Phillip Lawton, 17, all of Beaver Dam, died in a car crash on April 25. Casey Hartwig, of Beaver Dam died in an accident on Aug. 3. Kristan Baade, 16, died Sept. 15 in a car accident on Shaw Hill Road.

Brumm was the 17th fatality in the county this year compared to 11 at this time last year. The total fatalities in 2007 was 14.
