Cast selected for BDACT's production of 'Triangle'

Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre has announced the cast for "Triangle" which will be performed on Feb. 13, 14, 15 and 19, 20, 21 and 22 at the theatre located at 219 N. Spring St., Beaver Dam.

Director Diane Lutz said "Triangle" tells the story of the famous Triangle Shirtwaist Company fire in New York City in 1911. The company manufactured women's blouses, which at that period of time were called "shirtwaists." The fire was the worst workplace disaster in New York City until Sept. 11, 2001. This tragedy led to legislation requiring improved safety standards and working conditions for workers in the garment industry.

The play unfolds through the eyes of Malena, a teenage girl, living on the Lower East Side of New York City. Malena meets Sophie, the ghost of a young girl her same age, who died tragically in the Triangle Shirtwaist Company fire. Together the girls set on a journey to help Sophie reconcile with her sister, Rose.

Through music, movement and dialogue, author/playwright Laurie Brooks brings to life a time in our country when so many people came to America seeking golden opportunities.

In an effort to re-create an authentic background for a picture, the cast met at McKinstry's Home Furnishings and posed in the store's unique historic elevator which continues to serve the business each and every day.
