Prison given for school break-in

A 23-year-old man convicted of burglarizing St. Matthews Lutheran School in Iron Ridge has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Luke J. Hudak pleaded no contest to being a party to the burglary and was ordered to serve four years of supervision and pay $2,559 in restitution in addition to the prison term.

According to the criminal complaint, Hudak and two accomplices broke into the school through a window in March 2006. The burglars made away with more than $1,000 in tuition checks, petty cash, electronic equipment and an assortment of gift cards that were being collected for a school fund-raiser.

Two people who used gas gift cards stolen from the school led police to Hudak, who confessed to participating in the burglary and four others that occurred around the same time.

$27K in restitution ordered for beating

A Columbus man who broke a man's jaw when he asked the Columbus man's girlfriend to dance must pay $27,821 in restitution.

Shotan K. Gibson, 41, 519 School St., was convicted of substantial battery and was ordered to serve three years of probation.

According to the complaint, the altercation occurred at Jim's Cellar on Rowell Street in Beaver Dam. A witness said Gibson punched the victim in the face six or seven times, rendering him unconscious. The victim's fractured jaw required surgery.

Man caught with pants down

A Lake Mills man who urinated into a parked car before passing out on Union Street in Watertown with his pants down has been sentenced to jail.

Shawn M. Waldman, 20, 424 S. Main St., Lake Mills, pleaded no contest to lewd, lascivious behavior and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.

According to the criminal complaint, a witness told police Waldman had urinated into the open window of a parked car before passing out on Union Street.

A preliminary test revealed he had a blood-alcohol concentration of .24 percent, and officers also found marijuana in his pocket.

Waldman stated in the complaint that he had no recollection of urinating into the car, and didn't know why he was on Union Street.
