The annual Dodge County Firefighters Tournament Queen Pageant was held Thursday night in Allenton.
In all, 14 young ladies from the Dodge County participated, representing fourteen departments. The emcee of the program was Mark Morris of WBKV and WBWI radio stations from West Bend.
Each contestant was judged on poise, personality, grooming, apparel, the reading of poetry or prose and a randomly drawn question to be answered impromptu.
There were four judges from the community.
The pageant began with each young lady was introduced and escorted to the front of the room.
Third runner up was Jenna Colin of the Theresa Fire Department. Second runner up Amy Peplinski of the Hustisford Fire Department. First runner up was Kendra Korth.
The queen is Cierra Kurtzweil of the Clyman Fire Department.
Cierra is the daughter of Ann Fry-Blank and Douglas Kurtzweil. She is 16 and attends Hartford Union High School as a junior. Her interests are shooting trap and playing softball. She is studying taxidermy and also hunts. Her future plans include to enroll in the nursing program at Concordia.
When why she wanted to be fire queen, Kurtzwell said, "I've always felt strongly about having an active department in a community. I felt that being queen I could spread the word about fire prevention and represent the town I call home."
The newly crowned Queen is responsible for reigning over her court on Sunday's parade; presenting trophies at the end of the softball tournament; and presenting trophies at the end of water barrel fights.
