Rubicon woman is Fairest of Fair

JUNEAU — Amanda Hetzel was named the Dodge County Fairest of the Fair on Wednesday.

Hetzel, 20, is a student at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and wants to become a registered nurse with an emphasis in diabetes education.

She also would like to continue to do volunteer work within her community. Hetzel volunteers at Boys and Girls Club in Oshkosh and Aurora Medical in Hartford. She is involved with the UW-Oshkosh Residence Life program.

She attended Neosho Utopians 4-H Club and was a National Honor Society member.

Hetzel enjoys horseback riding, drawing, scrapbooking, puzzles and cooking.

Hetzel competed against eight other contestants to win the title: Amber Becker (Iron Ridge), Katie Dogs (Theresa), Jessica Haas (Beaver Dam), Lynn Paszek (Juneau), Jessica Pillsbury (Watertown), Brittany Sadoski (Beaver Dam), Kendall Uhlman (Rubicon) and Kiersten Zimmermann (Fox Lake).

Hetzel was asked what she would say to a member of PETA who came to the fair who asked about the animal auctions.

"I don't know much about the animal auctions," Hetzel said.

She said she would refer them to someone who would know more about the subject, but would still listen to what they had to say.

"Everyone has the right to their own opinion," Hetzel said.

Hetzel is replacing 2008 Fairest of the Fair Amanda Graff, Reeseville.

"Although I enjoyed meeting Miranda Lambert, Ted Nugent and Craig Morgan, it was the fairgoers that I looked forward to meeting the most," Graff said about her time as the fairest. "Thank you for kind smiles and hellos."

The Fairest of the Fair represents Dodge County Fair Association at the fair and during parades and other functions during the year. She serves as the official hostess at the fair and participates in promotional programs and media events. She also assists in the planning of next year's Fairest of the Fair program.
