JUNEAU — A former employee of Alt Chiropractic in Beaver Dam has been charged with embezzling thousands of dollars from the business.
Sara J. Livingston, 39, 401 Judson Drive, Beaver Dam, faces a felony charge of theft in a business setting in an amount more than $10,000. If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
According to a criminal complaint, Livingston may have embezzled more than $24,414 from the business over a two-year period.
Dr. Dale Alt told Beaver Dam police in December that Livingston had been fired from her job in the summer of 2008 for writing an unauthorized check to herself for $10,000. Alt said that Livingston had reconciled that amount, but he feared she may have taken thousands more.
According to a criminal complaint, Alt produced dozens of checks and credit card statements that showed Livingston had used the business’s accounts to pay for personal expenses, to make unauthorized charitable donations and to pay taxes.
Livingston is scheduled to return to Dodge County Circuit Court Dec. 30. She was freed following an initial court appearance Monday on a signature bond.
