Columbus council passes budget

COLUMBUS - The Columbus City Council unanimously passed a 2010 budget at Tuesday night’s city council meeting which will cost taxpayers an extra 11 cents per thousand dollars of taxable property.

The property tax levy has been set at $3,025,223 – about $24,000 less than what was projected several weeks ago, but still about $80,000 more than 2009. The city mill rate for 2010 will be just over $8.11.

Of the raise in the tax levy, just under $23,000 can be attributed to an increase in debt service, while about $51,000 will go into the general fund.

The assessed value of property in the city is going up by more than $4 million to almost $373 million.

“I believe all our targets have been met in this budget,” said city administrator Boyd Kraemer.
