The Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce has announced its selection of non-profit, citizens and business of the year that will be recognized at the chamber’s annual dinner in January:
Wayland Academy was named non-profit of the year. The school has been serving as a private educational institution in Beaver Dam for 154 years. The institution’s instructors, the campus facilities and student body have been an asset to the community and have had a positive impact on the quality of life in Beaver Dam.
Wayland is widely recognized as one of the Midwest’s finest private, preparatory high schools.
Jerry and Marcia Rechek are the 2010 citizens of the year. They are well-known and long-time community supporters and advocates. From the time they started the family business of Rechek’s Food Pride, until their retirement from the business, they set the tone for their employees, vendors and friends through generous giving of their time, talents and treasure.
In retirement both have continued supporting local charitable causes.
Kraft Foods Inc. is the business of the year. Kraft is an international corporate giant, but the chamber’s recognition is for the Kraft Foods, Beaver Dam plant, and the specific impact it has had as a“local company.
Kraft’s local management and employees have been generous with their time and with donations from the Philadelphia Brand Cream Cheese production facility, not just today, but for more than 75 years.
Wayland Academy, Jerry and Marcia Rechek and Kraft Foods were selected by representatives of past award recipients. All three will be recognized at the chamber’s annual dinner, which will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
At the dinner, the chamber will announce its selection of the chamber member of the year for 2009 - its top volunteer for the year past.
The event is open to the public. Invitations will be distributed in late December or early January. Call the Beaver Dam Chamber at 887-8879 to be placed on the invitation list, or to reserve a seat at the event.
