A two-month search for a pair of thieves who may have suffered burns in a bungled fuel theft attempt has turned up no leads, so the Dodge County Sheriff's Department is hoping someone recognizes the gas cans left at the scene.
The fuel theft attempt at Wally's Auto on Highway 33 outside of Beaver Dam occurred over the weekend of May 17, said Sheriff Todd Nehls.
Authorities suspect a fire started when two persons as two persons were trying to steal fuel from a skid loader and a boat. Three items left behind were gasoline cans for the siphoned fuel: one is an older steel can, another described as a "more common" steel can and the third is a plastic can with the initials "TW" written on it.

The fire caused an estimated $15,000 damage.
