Through an e-mail service hosted free by Microsoft, Moraine Park Technical College students get e-mail accounts and the college saves money.
Microsoft’s Windows Live@edu is similar to the Hotmail platform and is designed for colleges. Students have a Moraine Park domain name in their e-mail address. The Live@edu accounts are available for as long as students wish to keep them open, and access is available anywhere in the World via an Internet connection.
According to Jim Blakeslee, Moraine Park’s vice president of information technology, if the college was to host and support a comparable student e-mail system, the cost would be $720,000 over a five-year period.
