JUNEAU: Contractor accused of theft

A Juneau man has been charged with theft by a contractor for allegedly defaulting on a contract for work on a home in Beaver Dam.

Adam S. Raney, 31, 520 S. Fairfield Ave., No 112, Juneau, could face up to nine months in jail and a $10,000 fine if he’s convicted of the misdemeanor charge.

According to a criminal complaint, a woman gave Raney a $1,600 down payment on a contract worth more than $4,000 to complete work on the roof of her home on Lake Street.

Raney told police that he and his business partner routinely had four or five jobs lined up, and would often use the downpayment from one job to finance another. However, unexpected expenses left him without sufficient funds, according to a criminal complaint.
