HUSTISFORD: Counterfeit bill discovered

Lake Street Inn, 147 N. Lake St., discovered that a $100 counterfeit bill was accepted for payment at its business earlier this week

The bill is “washed.” Hustisford Police Chief Dan Link said this means that a $5 bill was bleached and $100 was printed on it.

If an identa-pen is used it will indicate that the bill is not tampered with, Link said. However, a second check to the light will indicate a different president. Holding a flashlight to the right corner of the bill will allow you to detect the error.

“This is disturbing as it makes it difficult for employees in stores to determine that the bill is counterfeit,” Link said. “I would ask that you pass this on to other business owners and take a brief moment to train your staff on what to look for in counterfeit bills.”

Link said he has taken the bill in as evidence and has made contact with many business owners to demonstrate what to look for with washed bills.

If anyone has any information that may help to determine who may be responsible for passing this counterfeit bill please contact Link at (920) 285-0721.
