JUNEAU – A 40-year-old Minot, North Dakota, man is charged with running over the foot of a Beaver Dam woman while searching for his ex-girlfriend on Oct. 8.

Shawn R. Kitzke is charged with a felony count of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. He could face up to 10 years in prison and a $26,000 fine if convicted of both offenses.

According to the criminal complaint, a Beaver Dam Police Officer responded to Beaver Dam Community Hospital at 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 9. A female patient at the hospital said that an acquaintance had intentionally run over her foot.

The officer saw that the woman’s foot was bruised, and the woman said that the medical staff called her injury a “crushed foot.”

The woman told the officer that Kitzke was the ex-boyfriend of her best friend. According to the criminal complaint, the woman said that Kitzke was obsessed with his ex and had gone to Milwaukee to find her and then to Beaver Dam to her house. The woman noticed that Kitzke’s children were with him and went out to check on one of his children. Kitzke got into the car, turned it on and proceeded to run over the woman’s foot.

Kitzke left the scene and could not be contacted until he was back in North Dakota. Kitzke said he had been concern about his ex-girlfriend because of her behavior. He said he left with his son, because he was worried that she was trying to take him. He allegedly told the officer that he was aware that he had driven over the woman’s foot.

Kitzke is scheduled to make his initial appearance on Nov. 20.
