JUNEAU — A 29-year-old Mayville man faces multiple charges related to molesting his two sons after his wife found evidence on his Google Photos account on the computer they share.

The man, who is not being identified by the Daily Citizen to protect the identity of the victims, is charged with felony counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child under 12, incest with a child, child sexual exploitation and possession of child pornography. He could be sentenced to 165 years in prison and a $300,000 fine.

The man appeared before Dodge County Court Commissioner Steven Seim and was ordered held on a $500,000 cash bond.

He may not have any direct or indirect contact with the victims or their residence. He may not have contact with any minor children. He may not have possession of firearms and may not use the internet.

According to the criminal complaint, the mother of the children called 911 on Oct. 15 and told police that her husband admitted that he had molested their two small children. The mother was having a panic attack while talking on the phone. She said that he admitted it while saying he was going to kill himself and had a gun to his head. She said Mayville Police had possession of the laptop that contained images depicting the alleged molestation.

The woman talked with police over the next few days and she told them that she and her husband had separate Google accounts on the same computer. She said she went to the Google Photos page and her husband’s account was logged in, revealing photos of sexual activity.

The woman confronted her husband and asked who was in the photos. Eventually, the man talked with his wife and allegedly told her that he was molested when he was 8, and he didn’t know what was wrong with him. She said he admitted to molesting their two boys, both under age 10. The woman said she ran away then because she didn’t want to hear anything else.

Police gained possession of his electronic equipment through warrants. Police talked to the man on Nov. 1 at a residence in Fond du Lac. Police had recovered erased images through the assistance of the Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. The man told the police that he felt he needed an attorney, while being shown some of the photos that had been retrieved.

Police next talked to the man on Nov. 30 when he was working at Mayville Engineering Company in Mayville. He was brought into the office area and the police said they were able to retrieve more images from the computer and from Google. The officer told the man that he knew what he deleted, and the day he deleted it. He also told him that there was a video recovered, and he asked the man if he knew what was on the video, and he said no. The officer told him the video was of him having sex with his son. He was then placed under arrest.

The man, who is listed in custody of the Dodge County Jail, has a preliminary hearing scheduled Dec. 7.
