Frederick E. Herzig Jr., 87, passed away Sept. 18, 2017, in the hospice unit of Madison’s VA Hospital.
He was born to parents Lydia and Frederick Herzig Sr. in Horicon Nov. 27, 1930.
A graduate of Horicon High School, he was a talented athlete who played multiple sports and became a lifelong fan of all things sports. Fred served in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed off Boston Harbor. He later became a journeyman lather working for his brother, Warren Walder, in Madison, where he worked and lived for more than 68 years.
Fred is survived by brother, Roland Herzig (Anna) of Fond du Lac; niece, Diane Walder of Madison; niece, Denise Walder (Roark McCune) of Stoughton; nephew, Doug Walder (Elissa Speizman) of Oak Park, Illinois; niece, Linda Herzig Gibbens (Neal) of Urbana, Illinois; nephew, Jim Behrendt of Florida; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Warren Walder; sister, Elizabeth Behrendt; and nephew, James W. Herzig.
No funeral services will take place and he will rest in peace at St. Charles Cemetery in Fond du lac.
