Ruth S. Altschwager, 93, a lifelong resident of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at Randolph Health Services.

Ruth was born the daughter of Alvin and Selma (Jahnke) Nehmer Oct. 13, 1924, in Columbus. She was married to Joseph Altschwager Sr. May 26, 1945, in Oklahoma. Ruth was a dedicated homemaker as well as owning and operating Oxbow Mink Ranch in Columbus with her husband.

Ruth was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbus. She took pride in keeping up her home and yard. Ruth enjoyed gardening and was an avid Badgers fan.

Ruth is survived by her son, Joe (Deb) Altschwager Jr. of Columbus; her siblings, Bill (Merle) Nehmer of Columbus, Roger Nehmer of Columbus, and Doris Friedrich on Milwaukee; two grandchildren, Sue Ellen Pankow and Bill (Barb) Altschwager; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph in 2002; and brothers, Lester Nehmer and Alvin “Butch” Nehmer Jr.

A visitation will be held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbus, Monday, Nov. 13, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Tim Schwartz will officiate. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbus.
