Kenneth “Ken” J. Koltz, 81, Beaver Dam, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at Clearview Nursing Home in Juneau.

Ken was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, June 8, 1936, to Henry and Emily (Hanek) Koltz. He graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, in 1954. He graduated from Manitowoc County Teacher’s College in 1956. Ken married June Peters June 15, 1957. After teaching in Jefferson for three years, he attended UW-Oshkosh where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He taught in Plymouth for three years. In 1964, he moved his family to Beaver Dam and accepted the challenge to help start a school for inmates in the Wisconsin State Prison in Waupun. In 1967, he returned to the elementary school setting in the Slinger School District. During this time, he helped start the Allenton school, serving as the fifth-grade teacher and principal for several years. He then returned to the Slinger building as a classroom teacher until his retirement in 1991. While teaching, Ken earned his master’s degree and also worked part time for several years in the carpeting department at Kindt/Wickes Lumber. Ken participated in various Beaver Dam softball leagues. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially liked spending time at the family cottage on White Lake.

Ken is survived by his wife of 60 years, June; his daughter, Kristin (Richard) Nedow of Beaver Dam; his sons, Kyle (Robin) Koltz of Oconomowoc, Kory (Cindy) Koltz of Beaver Dam, and Kerry (Carie Ann) Koltz of Beaver Dam; his grandchildren, Margaret Nedow, Elisa (Kevin) Menzer, Meredith (Lucas) Bitter, Emilee (Andrew) Nemmers, Dylan (Monique) Koltz, Jessica (Joe) Przybylski, Ashley Koltz and Joshua Koltz; and six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Raegan, Piper, Mason, Jonas and Elijah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn grandson, Michael Nedow; and an infant great-grandson, Hunter Koltz.

A funeral service will be held at St. Stephen’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1. A visitation will also take place at the church Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Following the service, a lunch will be served at church with interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 300 West St., Beaver Dam.
