He smelt a rat. Patrick Henry knew a Constitutional Convention in the hands of a few meant the law of the land could be scrapped altogether and a completely new set of laws written. It would easily place unchecked power in the hands of a minority.
Fortunately for us, the Founding Fathers were terrified of government abusing power over citizens, and created a system of checks and balances to prevent any one branch of the government from gaining too much control, and using it to harm groups of people.
This very plan is in the House right now. While preaching “less government control," the GOP would be creating a central government with power and control over its people not seen since under King George III before the American Revolution.
Twenty eight states already approve of a Constitutional Convention, and only 34 total are needed. (Most have small populations, so a minority of extreme conservatives can rewrite the U.S. Constitution permanently).
It is dangerously close. They will “sell” it as a way to require a balanced budget and limit spending. Don’t be fooled by what is really going on here.
Contact your representatives now, and demand they don’t allow a Constitutional Convention.
