WAUPUN - Velda L. Rechek, 83, of Waupun, died on Monday, June 29, 2009, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at Pella Lutheran Church, 315 S. Madison St., Waupun. The Rev. Ken Loehrke will officiate. Burial will be in Lind Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lewin Funeral Home, 210 Main St., Fremont, on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
Velda was born on Oct. 25, 1925, in the farmhouse of her parents in West Bloomfield, a daughter of Paul and Anna Timm. She attended Christ Lutheran Church and its parochial school in West Bloomfield, where she was confirmed and baptized.
On June 18, 1944, Velda married Marlyn Dittmann. Together they farmed in the town of Lind and were active members of Emmaus Lutheran Church until Marlyn preceded her in death on May 19, 1977. Velda continued to manage the farm and remain active in her church activities until Nov. 2, 1982, when she was united in marriage to Anthony Rechek and moved to his farm in Burnett. In 1984, she became a member of Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun, and their Ladies Aid Society and LWML. She especially enjoyed her church, all her loving families and get-togethers, sewing, reading and playing cards. In 1990, the couple moved to their present home in Waupun.
Velda is survived by her three children, Judy Barker, Appleton, Mark (Mary) Dittmann, Neenah, and Brent (Jayne) Dittmann, Pine River; five-step-children, Debbie (Mark) Vande Zande, Diana (Mark) Gedamke, Don (Deb) Rechek, Donna Mutz, and Daniel Rechek, all from the Waupun area; seven grandchildren, Travis (Kathy) Dittmann, Brad (Penny) Dittmann, Chad Barker, Jared (Annette) Barker, Dr. Lisa (Jeff) Shefchik, Jalayna and Bronson Dittmann; seven great-grandchildren, Carter, Brandon, Quinn and Bryce Dittmann, Payton and Miah Shefchik and Addisyn Barker; nine step-grandchildren, Eric, Ryan and Kyle Vande Zande, Heather, Josh and Jason Gedamke, Danielle Rechek, Laura Mutz and Jonathan Rechek; also Don's four step-children, Carey (John) Duenkel, Shawn and Ashley Hearron and Melissa Esquivel and step-grandchildren, Taylor, Autumn, Allyson and Dustin Duenkel and Blake, Kolton and Hayden Hearron; a brother, Walter Timm, Lafayette, Ind.; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Timm, Pine River, and Betty Loehrke, Weyauwega, and a special niece and godchild, Sherry Blomberg, Weyauwega.
Velda was preceded in death by her first husband Marlyn Dittmann and her second husband, Anthony Rechek, two brothers, Arno and Elnor Timm, and four sisters, Vernis, Lois, Irene and Lyla, three sisters-in-law, Jeannette and Margaret Timm and Oleatta Speigelberg, and a son-in-law, Harold Barker.
