Marie Mauth Zemlo

COLUMBUS/FOX LAKE/ELROY  — Marie L. Mauth Zemlo, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009.

She was born at home on June 25, 1918, in rural Columbus, the first child of George and Anna (Frank) Nehmer. In 1945 she married Reuben W. “Duke” Mauth and they built a home in Columbus. Their first daughter, Karen, was born in December 1946, and daughter Dianne was born in April 1951. After Duke’s death in 1968, Marie married Howard Zemlo in 1970 and moved to rural Fox Lake, WI. He preceded her in death in 1989. In 2000, Marie moved to the Heritage Nursing Home in Elroy, WI, in order to live nearby her daughter Dianne. She later resided at Heritage Manor.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Karen (Jeff) Bahr of Mooresville, NC and Dianne (Larry) Daines of Hillsboro, WI; three grandsons, Chris (Mai-Lis) Bahr of Charlotte, NC, Ryan (Rebecca) Bahr of Naperville, IL, and Jesse Daines of Washington, DC; four great-grandchildren, Carson and Addison Bahr and Brennan and Anderson Bahr; two sisters, Dorothy Cripps of Sun Prairie, WI, and Betty Brossard of Harvey, LA; a sister-in-law, Betty Conlin of Columbus, WI; two brothers-in-law, Ed Kohlhaas of Richardson, TX and Harvey Mauth of Idaho Falls, ID; and many more beloved relatives and friends. We loved her. We will always remember coming home to the aromas of homemade bread, cookies and doughnuts. In addition to her husbands, Marie was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna in infancy; her brother, Loren in infancy; her brother, Lloyd in 1975; her sister, Geraldine “Gerry” Kohlhaas in 2009, and other relatives and friends she held dear.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Jensen Funeral & Cremation in Columbus with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. The Rev. Philip Heyer of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marie Zemlo’s name to the American Heart Association, 2850 Dairy Drive, Madison, WI, 53718. Thank you to the compassionate and concerned staff at Heritage Manor who cared for Mom so well and lovingly during her time spent there. We are truly grateful.
