Treasurer defends Clyman meeting
I am writing in response to the letter from Jerome Haase.
In Mr. Haase's letter regarding the financials for the town of Clyman, he seems to have mixed up facts from opinions. Let's clear it up.
Fact: The town chairman, 1st supervisor and clerk were all elected into their current positions by a "majority" vote.
Fact: Based on my educational background, my financial background, and my ability to move the town forward, I was appointed treasurer by the board in October 2007.
Fact: When I received the books for the town of Clyman they did not balance. This variation was posted in the December 2007 balance sheet.
Fact: One week into my position the town board, clerk, and myself prepared a balanced budget for 2008.
The 2007 budget did not balance.
Fact: For the first time in over a decade the taxpayer had a choice to either mail in their taxes or come and meet your local treasurer and pay them in person. I did not ask for any additional funds and did not request any per diems for this extra time.
Fact: The town of Clyman balanced with Dodge County at the end of the tax season and all funds were accounted for at the end of 2007.
Fact: An annual report was completed for 2007. This report complied with the Wisconsin Towns Associations state statues. It also followed suit with Dodge County's recommendations, other local municipality's annual reports, major corporation's annual reports, as well as small communities and even your local churches annual report.
Fact: An annual report by definition is a "summary" of income and expenses in comparison to what was budgeted.
Mr. Haase, the town board meets every second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. As a concerned citizen I wonder why you do not attend these meetings? This is where you would receive a monthly balance sheet explaining the cash flows for the current month. This report also gives detailed information for every deposit and expenditure for the current month. I hope that you take the time to stop down and speak with your current board about any comments, questions, or suggestions you may have in the future.
I look forward to working with the citizens from the Town of Clyman for many years to come.
