MAILBAG - History's lesson; Harmonology thanks; Lost Lake thanks

We’re watching history repeat itself

Some people just do not get it. It seems that, just like me, they are not directly affected in their everyday lives by this recession.

I, for one, lived through the Depression of the 1930s and I can tell you this would not have been nearly as bad as it was if President Hoover had done something about it. It took a Democrat to change things around and many years to undo the damage done by the greed of a few investors.

In today's recession we threw the same amount of money back into the tills of those greedy people so that the rest of us could become employed once more. The wheels of our economy will not turn without the (missing cog) in the gears that grind our monetary system his vast amount of money had been bled from our economy by greed and now these wheels are starting to turn again.

This is not the first time we were forced to take such measures. In 1848, Congress had enacted the Land Grant Bill. This sent innocent pioneers west of the Mississippi in the hopes of settling the West. They discovered what was to become our benefactor.

As they started harvesting this wealth from the earth, they had no means to facilitate the movement of tools and supplies in nor these valuable products out. This required a survival kit which Congress would not give them until President Lincoln took charge. He spent a fortune of our tax dollars building boats, bridges, railroads and highways. He became a hated man in doing these things, but where would we be today if he hadn't ?

Teddy Roosevelt (also a Republican I might add) found that we were destroying the very earth which was serving our needs and he too spent millions of our tax dollars to set us on a path of self-survival. He, too, was very unpopular until history and our very image throughout the world has proven that survival is dependent upon sustaining God's green earth.

Greed once again ripped us apart during the Roaring ‘20s and this time a Democrat tried very hard to replace these embezzled dollars with tax dollars. These were dollars removed from our capitalistic system, of course. These borrowed dollars both put us to work and managed to get our economic wheels turning once more.

History is merely repeating itself, so what are we complaining about ?

‘Harmonology 2’ a real treat

If you did not go to see the Beaver Dam Community Theatre's production of "Harmonology 2," you missed a great show.

Once again, we saw the many talents of these talented men in our community. They sang beautiful songs, threw in some comedy and lots of extra talent.

Thanks to the guys in the group and everyone at the theater for allowing us to just be able to sit and smile and feel good when we have many troubles on our mind.
