Fallfest efforts are praised On behalf of the Friends of Harnischfeger Park Committee, I would like to extend our heart felt thanks to all of the many volunteers who with their collective efforts made Fallfest 2009 at Harnischfeger Park on Oct. 3 a huge success. Thank you to the cooks for our pancake breakfast. We fed more people this year than in years past, and it was delicious. To the many hands that showed up that day to help, the Lebanon 4-H kids, the Boy Scouts, and all of the individuals as well, thank you. From the bakers for our bake sale, to the rendezvous and antique equipment exhibitors, and all of our Market Place vendors that gave people things to see and do, thank you. To our entertainment, Three Cats and a Kitten, and John Mathews along with the dog conditioning demonstration and the many folks who brought in animals for the petting zoo, thank you. To the many businesses and people that donated funds and goods to help us make this an affordable family event, thank you. The smiles on children’s faces, along with families and friends enjoying fresh air and the park are your reward for contributions made. A special thank you to the Martin family, the Friends of Dodge County Parks Inc. "Volunteer of the Year" recipients. Their family has put many hours into not only helping to "save Harnischfeger Park back in 2003, but have tirelessly continued to support the park in all of it’s events through the years since. Check out the tree planted in their honor near the flagpole by the clubhouse, and tell them thanks as well if you have the opportunity to do so. Last but not least, thank you to all of the people that came out to the park on Oct. 3 to support your park and help raise a little money to make the park even better. We hope your visit to the park was enjoyable, and that you will continue to visit the park whenever you can. Save the date, Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, for Winterfest 2010. — Glenn Daily Chairman, Friends of Harnischfeger Park No ‘free’ ink for Rep. Fitzgerald Dear editorial staff or to whomever is responsible for this front page item, content aside, (insurance rate hikes) in the Oct. 26 paper: You have once again given Assembly Minority Leader Jeff Fitzgerald free political advertising. Did Mr. Fitzgerald write this piece? It doesn't say who wrote it. There is no byline. Did he research it and fact check it? It does not resolve that either. He is quoted one time for one line towards the end of the article. But what this piece does is to put Mr. Fitzgerald in that all important exposure of the positive light of doing something, when in reality we don't know if he did anything but smile for his picture at the top of the piece. And that is probably all he should get if he wrote the piece. If I run for office in 2010 and do something good like smile for MY picture- can I get free publicity too? Or like the rest of us "Progressives" we'll have to pay for it like everyone should. This should have reported and written by a legitimate reporter for the paper or the A.P. — Randall James Vockroth
