Blood drives were held recently in Dodge County for the BloodCenter of Wisconsin. On Sept. 4, there was a drive at the American Legion in Horicon and on Sept. 7 there was a drive at St. Katharine Drexel in Beaver Dam. Both drives were a success, collecting 30 percent more units than expected.

Blood from these drives supply the hospitals in Dodge County and some was sent to hospitals in the Houston area affected by Hurricane Harvey. The large turnout showed that people in our area committed to do whatever is needed to help others. Thanks to all who helped. Volunteers who coordinated the drives, volunteers at each site who helped with setup/donor check-in and volunteers who provided and served refreshments. Thanks to the Daily Citizen for advertising the drive. Thanks to WBEV for the extra effort made to advertise for support to the Houston hospitals. Thanks to the BDCH Foundation for helping offset expenses of the blood drives.

Upcoming dates to donate are Oct. 6 at the YMCA, Nov. 9 at Grace Presbyterian Church, Nov. 21 at Horicon American Legion, Dec. 1 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital, and Jan. 4 at Katharine Drexel Parish. For more information, call BCW at 877-BE-A-HERO.
