WATERTOWN — Erica Schwantes' first trip back to Watertown could not have gone worse Thursday.
The former Gosling assistant watched as the Little Ten leaders pounded Beaver Dam, 12-0 and 9-0, in softball. Beth Miller threw a three-hitter in game one and scattered nine hits in game two while keeping BD silent.
"In the first game, we held them through four innings and we played very well," Schwantes said. "Then in what's become very typical for us this season, we make a mistake and we hang our heads.
"Our hitting is not what I expected. We struggled at the plate and that killed us through both games."
Abby Gregory, Brittany Baumler and Ashley Welch each had two hits in game two. Welch took the loss in game one and Britt Roen lost in game two.
"Ashley threw well," Schwantes said. "We need to sustain a good defensive game."
BD (8-9, 6-5 LTC), which collapsed to the tune of 16 errors on the day, visits West Bend East for Tuesday's doubleheader.
The Goslings (18-2, 14-0) clinched the league title outright.
