HOLMEN — Beaver Dam produced 25 runs on 24 hits in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Holmen Saturday.
"Our goal was to be 2-0 on the day and we accomplished it," BD baseball coach Joe Loizzo said. "We got a lot of kids playing time and hit the ball very well."
BD (10-5) opened game one with 12 runs in the first three innings on its way to a 13-9 victory.
The second game proved to be more entertaining.
Trailing 8-5 entering the sixth, the Golden Beavers got the bats going at the right time. Corey Keel reached on a walk and Eric Sackett followed with an RBI double.
After a pitching change, Dusty Blanchard reached on an error, scoring Sackett. Matt Eschenbauch then walked to put the go-ahead run on base.
Eschenbauch was picked off first and caught in a rundown. However, Holmen could not tag Eschenbauch out and Blanchard scored to tie the game.
Two batters later, Tal Diekvoss hit an RBI single to take the lead. Alex Finke finished off the inning by connecting on a two-run homer.
"Tal's pinch hit single was big," Loizzo said.
Keel pitched the final four innings to pick up the nightcap win. Blanchard pitched a complete game to take the opener.
Eschenbauch added four hits in the sweep.
BD, winners of eight of its past nine contests, hosts Waupun in a Little Ten battle today.
