Sean Conway was mere millimeters away from setting a school record on home soil.

Setting the high jump bar at 6 feet, 6 inches — one inch higher than the old mark — Conway clipped his heels on the bar on his first attempt at Tuesday's Little Ten Conference meet.

Although he would not convert the height, Conway's successful 6-4 jump earlier was good enough for one of his three titles.

"Conway, Conway, Conway," BD boys track coach Curt Gruenewald said. "He had a really big night for us."

Conway also took first in the 400 meter run (51.01 seconds) before working with Joey Salazar, Tony Grandprey and Devin Kellenberger to take the 800 relay crown in 1:31.44.

Those three titles, along with two other individual crowns powered the Golden Beavers to a third-place finish with 100 points. Wisconsin Lutheran won the team title (155) followed by Hartford (141.5).

"Team-wise, we're very proud of our kids," Gruenewald said. "We knew Wisco and Hartford were going to win the meet.

"But we got a lot of strong performances from our jumpers and throwers."

Kellenberger added a conference title in the long jump (21-8) while taking fifth in a competitive triple jump (41-5).

Zach Dorn had BD's final conference crown, winning the discus (148-5). BD received a key push in points by taking third through fifth in the shot put. Andrew Cook went 50-5.5 to finish third while Hank Jacobs (48-1.5) and Dorn (47-6.5) followed behind him.

"Our throwers did really well," Gruenewald said. "A nice effort from the kids."

On the girls side, BD had two seconds and two thirds. The 3,200 relay team of Ali Johnson, Ericka Wild, Emma Dittmann and Jenna Wise turned in a time of 10:09.22. Johnson also was a runner-up in the 800 (2:27.95).

Eva Steiner took third in the long jump (16-4.5) while Kaitlyn McIntyre was third in the triple jump (33-3).

"We were glad to see many personal records for this year tonight and pleased to get some second team all-conference and honorable mentions," BD girls coach Jodi Franke said.

BD hosts a Division 1 regional meet Monday.
