Prep boys golf: Schmude wins Flyway title

BERLIN — Early in the season, Horicon's Tyler Schmude struggled in Flyway meets.

Now he is the conference's Player of the Year after matching his closest competition, St. Mary's Springs' Alec Todryk, with an 82 for co-medalist honors at Friday's 18-hole finale.

Schmude averaged 41.1 strokes in conference play to best Todryk (41.7). No other golfer was within two shots of the duo.

Schmude was the medalist in Horicon's last five conference mini meets.

As a team, the Marshmen (378) finished in a tie for fifth with Winnebago Lutheran Academy. Luke Tribbey, who finished on the Flyway's second team, shot 88. Paul Tribbey fired a 96 and Nick Checolinski had a 112. Mike Butterbrodt was the scratch with a 114.

Chase Schwartzmiller led Mayville (403) with a 93. Austin Wiese had a 99 followed by Nick Kubicek (102) and Aaron Turk (109).

Mayville heads to Horicon for Tuesday's Division 2 regional.

Flyway meet

 at Mascoutin GC, par 72.

Eastern Wisconsin

KEWASKUM — Led by an 82 from Jordan Mock, the Waupun boys golf team took third at Friday's 18-hole Eastern Wisconsin meet at Hon-E-Kor Golf Club, par 70.

With the finish, the Warriors moved ahead of host Kewaskum for second in the final team standings.

"This was the first time we got to second all year and it's a great time to do it," Waupun coach Dan Wucherer said. "We've showed improvement all year long.

"Though we didn't golf that great today, we did enough to catapult into second."

Mock, who tied for second in the meet, finished on the EWC's first team. Jake Pusateri (86) made second-team honors.

Rounding out the scoring were Justin TenPass with a 92 and Justin Pusateri shooting 95. Grant Vande Zande's 105 was the scratch.

Waupun heads to Horicon Tuesday for the Division 2 regional meet at Rock River Hills G.C.

EWC meet
