SUN PRAIRIE — Columbus isn't used to starting this fast.
Sun Prairie certainly wasn't prepared for it, either.
Charlie Calvo converted in the third minute and Beau Berry tacked on a header in the 60th minute to give Columbus a 2-0 win in Thursday's road opener.
"I think we made a huge statement for what we can do," Columbus coach Jason Adams said. "It sends a message out.
"We've always had a horrible first three games since I've been here. These guys are so determined and we feel confident we can do some damage right now."
Calvo didn't waste any time after settling a cross at the far post from Aaron Kast. He settled the ball and popped it over the keeper.
"It was a beautiful cross from the left side," Adams said. "We had a nice buildup before that."
Berry doubled the lead off a corner from Mike Poser. Sun Prairie had Berry, a central defender, marked but he was able to surge through and bury the low header.
"Beau is so big and strong," Adams said. "He was able to snap it and power it in."
T.J. Francis made seven stops to keep a clean sheet in goal. Next up for Columbus is Tuesday's trip to Reedsburg.
