Volleyball roundup: Mayville sweeps Orioles

MAYVILLE — Kasey Schwartzmiller had nine assists and three aces as Mayville swept visiting North Fond du Lac, 25-19, 25-12, 25-16, in Thursday's Flyway volleyball match.

"We played with a high intensity level tonight," Mayville coach Beth Borchardt said. "We attacked the ball with confidence and the blockers played the net very aggressively."

Katie Toellner had four kills and three blocks while Carissa Apfelbeck had four blocks. Melissa Nied and Steffani Koch each had four kills for the Cardinals (6-11, 2-4 Flyway), who visit Portage Saturday.

JACKSON — Top-ranked Kettle Moraine Lutheran made quick work of visiting Horicon, 25-10, 25-7, 25-6, in Thursday's Flyway volleyball.

"The problem was we didn't do the things we're capable of," Horicon co-coach Ruth Leitzke said. "It was our poorest passing game of the season.

"We just didn't do it. We're all pretty frustrated."

Shelby Scharpf had three assists and Alix Kruel had seven digs. Bri Schwartz and Allee Yundt each had three digs for Horicon (7-20, 2-4 Flyway), which hosts Mayville next Thursday.

GREEN LAKE — Megan Connell had 23 assists and five aces in Wayland Academy's 25-11, 25-17, 25-14 nonconference volleyball win at Green Lake Thursday.

"The girls did a great job covering and moving around, hustling for every ball," Wayland coach Heidi Eisenreich said.

Jenna Ptaschinski had 12 kills, six digs and three blocks while Alli Franco had seven kills and six digs. Anne Rauschert had five aces, five kills and three blocks.

Stephanie Hill had 13 digs for the Big Red (17-5), who host Heritage Christian Tuesday. Both teams are unbeaten in league play.
