WAUPUN — Taylor Nehls rushed for 101 yards on 17 carries and received a controversial flag in Waupun's 13-7 Eastern Wisconsin football loss to visiting Kiel.
Nehls leaped over a Raider defender as Waupun was driving for a potential tying score. He found himself hit with an obscure hurdling penalty to help negate the drive.
"It's a call I've never seen before and I figured it meant stepping on someone," Waupun coach Rick Applin said. "He made an unbelievable play and all of a sudden we're going back."
Waupun's lone score came from Callon Andrews, who hauled in a 50-yard scoring pass from Cory Nickel. The Warriors (2-6, 1-5 EWC) host Two Rivers to wrap up play Thursday.
Kiel (4-4, 3-3) kept its playoff hopes alive.
