COLUMBUS — The Lady Cardinals let Wisconsin Heights hang around for about a quarter and a half Thursday night. They then left them in their dust.
With three players scoring 14 points apiece, Columbus broke from an 18-18 tie midway through the second quarter to outscore the Vanguards, 49-17, for the remainder of the game to post a 67-35 Capitol Conference crossover victory over Heights.
Sophomores Heidi Paul and Sam Seltzner, and senior guard Marijo Kaschub each tallied 14 points to let the Lady Cardinals improve to 4-0 on the season.
"We didn't shoot the ball well, early on," Cardinals coach Jeff Schweitzer said.
Columbus finished the first half on an 8-0 run to lead 26-18 at intermission, and then built a bigger cushion with a 10-2 run to open the third quarter.
"The whole second half I thought we played very complete," he said.
The Vanguards were led by senior center and Mankato State recruit Ali Wilkinson. Wilkinson finished the night with a game-high 19 points.
Columbus returns to action next Friday when it travels to Watertown Luther Prep for the Capitol North opener.

JUNEAU — Morgan Kuhn had 20 points and 18 rebounds for Dodgeland as the Trojans rallied for a 35-32 win over Fall River in Thursday's Southern Trailways girls basketball game.
"It was tight the whole way," Dodgeland coach Matt Yuenger said. "They were up by five in the fourth quarter before we got the lead back."
Brianna Schmitt's lone basket was a big one as her 3-pointer gave the Trojans (2-2, 1-0 South) a 31-29 advantage with two minutes remaining.
Kuhn then scored the team's final points to hold off the Pirates (1-2, 0-1).
"Morgan had the whole game in her hands," Yuenger said. "Whenever we got the ball to her, she scored."
Rachel Dauman scored 12 points to lead the Pirates, who host Cambria-Friesland Monday. Dodgeland heads to Marshall the same night.

DEERFIELD — A balanced all-around effort propelled Hustisford's girls basketball team to an easy 52-33 Southern Trailways rout of Deerfield Thursday.
"Our defense really did it for us tonight," Falcons coach Bob Nass said. "We allowed only one 3-point basket in the first and third quarters."
Shyla Kuehl and Kayla Will paced Hustisford (3-1, 1-0 South) with 13 points each. Kuehl also pulled down 16 rebounds Brandi Peltier added 10 points and six boards while Marissa Nass had eight points, 12 rebounds to go along with six assists.
Katie Maas led the Falcons with eight assists.
"A total team effort," coach Nass said. "All seven kids who played contributed everywhere.
"You can't ask for much more than that as a coach."
Deerfield (1-3, 0-1) got 20 points from Siri Borrud.

RANDOLPH — Chelsey Omen had 17 points, five assists and five steals as Randolph's girls basketball team routed Pardeeville, 49-22, in Thursday's Central Trailways contest.
"I was pleased with our transition game," Rockets coach Tim Omen said. "We shared the ball and created a lot of opportunities for ourselves."
Randolph (3-2, 2-0 Central) had 15 assists on 17 baskets.
Freshman Myriel Werner had eight rebounds and four assists to go along with five points.
"She's just starting to get comfortable," coach Omen said. "I expect she'll continue to improve with more time."
Randolph heads to Central Wisconsin Christian Monday.

Brie Medley had 10 rebounds, nine steals and nine points while Anne Rauschert added eight points, five rebounds and four assists. Stephanie Hill scored eight points.
"It was great for the girls to get this win," Wayland coach Judy Hill said. "Hopefully their confidence continues to grow as they keep playing solid all-around basketball."
