Prep volleyball: Waupun sweeps

CAMPBELLSPORT — Waupun slammed host Campbellsport, 25-6, 25-8, 25-9, in Thursday’s lopsided Eastern Wisconsin volleyball match.

Bridget Nickel came up with 11 kills, nine digs and four aces. Brandi Dolgner added five kills but it was one of her 13 digs that caught coach Keith Milkowski’s eye.

“Brandi had one of the best hustle plays I’ve seen all year,” Milkowski said. “She dug a ball that ricocheted over and we rolled from there.

“It was a good night, we got everyone some playing time and now we look forward to our home tournament.”

Alexa Finstad dealt 23 assists and served for four aces. Jenell Larsen had six kills and five blocks in the middle while Libby Bresser had four kills and Lydia Guell had four digs.

Waupun (15-4, 6-0 EWC) will host an invitational including East Troy, Fond du Lac, Greendale, Laconia, Sun Prairie and Westosha Central Saturday.

HORICON — Horicon was swept, 25-12, 25-5, 25-17, at home by Kettle Moraine Lutheran in Thursday’s Flyway volleyball action.

“We couldn’t muster a solid serve receive in order to create an aggressive attack on a good team,” Horicon coach Laine Leitzke said. “We came out sluggish and it hurt us.”

Emilee Ziorgen had four kills and Jocelyn Gasner added three for Horicon. Allee Yundt had eight assists and six digs while Shelby Scharpf had six assists and Rachael Erdman had eight digs.

Horicon (2-12, 1-1 Flyway) heads to Saturday’s Waterloo Invitational.

RANDOLPH — Megan Pickhardt had 16 kills while Brittany Tonn added nine kills and 14 digs for Randolph Thursday as the Rockets routed Green Lake, 25-13, 25-10, 25-20, in Northern Trailways volleyball.

“The first two games were outstanding for us,” Rockets coach Jeff Kohlbeck said. “Our offense really kept their defense moving.”

Randolph (5-12, 2-4 North) did trail by as many as seven points in the third set before rallying for the victory.

Jami Nelson added 12 digs while Allie Omen chipped in 32 assists for the Rockets, who host Montello Tuesday.

Green Lake is now 3-4 and 2-4.

FALL RIVER — Deerfield’s Rachel Smith had 15 assists and nine aces for the Demons in Thursday’s 25-18, 25-9, 25-11 Southern Trailways volleyball win over Fall River.

“We’re really struggling in our back row,” Pirates coach Jenny Quade said. “Deerfield hit the ball well against us tonight.”

Kayla Simon had five kills and three blocks to pace the Pirates (1-6, 1-5 South), who head to Hustisford Tuesday.

RIO — Rebekah Held served up seven aces and Sam Kuehl added six more as Hustisford swept host Rio, 25-15, 25-14, 25-23, in Thursday’s Southern Trailways volleyball match.

Kuehl finished with nine assists, eight digs and three kills. Marisa Nass had six kills and six digs while Allison Dabroski had three blocks.

“My team played together very well,” Hustisford coach Jess Kirchoff said. “I was very proud of their performance.”

Cassy Coles had seven digs for the Falcons (3-16, 1-4 South), who host Fall River Tuesday.

Host Wayland Academy stomped St. Joan Antida, 25-4, 25-9, 25-7, in Thursday’s Northern Midwest Classic volleyball match.

“It was a great team effort tonight with all players contributing,” Wayland coach Judy Hill said. “Many girls played different roles in the rotation to try out new spots.”

Megan Connell led Wayland with six kills while Jenna Ptaschinski, Anne Rauschert and Stephanie Hill each had four. Leslie Walton put up eight assists for the Big Red (9-2), who play at Waterloo Saturday.
