FALL RIVER — Aaron Fenner rushed 24 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns, including the clincher with 96 seconds to play in Hustisford’s 21-12 Small Trailways football win at Fall River Friday.
“The effort’s there,” Fall River coach Brian Zacho said. “We’ve got to find a way to win.
“They gave us some big plays and some big penalties but we couldn’t take advantage of them. We’re scrappy but we have to get tougher.”
Fenner’s scoring run from seven yards out put Hustisford on the board first. Dexter Oelke caught a 68-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Rabl with a minute before halftime to cut the lead to 7-6.
“The kids ran the ball hard and our offensive line did a nice job,” Hustisford coach Dan Simon said. “Aaron had a great game.”
Adam Falkenthal found Brett Hildebrandt from 44 yards out late in the third quarter to make it a 14-6 edge. Oelke scored from 6 yards away with 4:34 to play but the Pirates missed on the 2-point conversion.
“I was a little disappointed with some of our penalties,” Simon said. “We had 45 yards of penalties on their second scoring drive.”
The Falcons (1-6, 1-3 Small) held a 203-58 edge on the ground while picking up their first win. Hustisford hosts Rio next week.
Fall River (1-6, 1-3) visits Randolph in its next contest.
