Boys basketball: Golden Beavers blast Kewaskum

By Citizen Staff

KEWASKUM – Tal Diekvoss scored 15 of his game-high 26 points in the first quarter as the Beaver Dam boys basketball team routed Kewaskum, 64-39, in Tuesday’s nonconference season opener.

Diekvoss had six of BD’s nine 3-pointers in the contest.

“For an opening game, I liked our defensive pressure,” BD coach Tim Ladron said.

“Off that pressure, we got good shots.”

Dan Docter added eight of his 12 points in the opening quarter for the Golden Beavers (1-0), who were 12-for-16 from the field to start the game. Overall, BD made 31 of its 63 attempts.

BD forced the host Indians (0-1) into 27 turnovers. Jake Heuer had five steals, four rebounds and three assists while R.J. Shelton chipped in eight assists and four steals.

“We feel like we’re much quicker than we were last year,” Ladron said. “We’ve got guys who can play an up-tempo game and can force turnovers.”

BD hosts a two-day tournament starting Friday. Waupun will play DeForest in the opener at 5:45 p.m., followed by BD against Big Foot.
