SHEBOYGAN – Kyle Kelm hit for 16 of his game-high 28 points after halftime as Randolph held off Oak Creek, 43-40, in Friday’s Redwing Tournament opener at Sheboygan South.
Kelm grabbed 13 rebounds. Zach Reuter added seven points, four rebounds and a key late 3-pointer.
“It was tough and hard-fought,” Randolph coach Bob Haffele said. “We turned the ball way too much and we were bad from the free-throw line.”
The Rockets (0-1) hit just four of 12 foul shots but still won. Said Haffele, “That’s how you lose games.
“It’s the kind of game we let slip away last year, so that’s a positive. We have to get more balanced, a lot more balanced.”
Randolph faces host Sheboygan South in tonight’s championship game.

Slinger Tournament
Mayville 55,
Kewaskum 43
SLINGER – Mayville’s Nick Geiger scored 18 points and added six rebounds as the Cardinals downed Kewaskum, 55-43, in the opening game of the Slinger boys basketball tournament on Friday.
“It’s good to get a win to start the season,” Cardinals coach Stu Strook said. “We did some things well, especially in the first half.”
Mayville (1-0) took advantage of Kewaskum’s zone and connected on open jump shots. Aaron Turk made three 3-pointers and Scott Moyle added another as the Cardinals jumped out to 34-17 halftime lead.
Poor free-throw shooting by Mayville (11-for-30) kept the Cardinals from pulling away to an easy win.
“That’s not good enough,” Strook said. “We missed a lot of shots inside as well in the second half. But we can clean those things up.”
Turk had nine points and three assists while Brandon Waas added eight points and five boards.
Mayville will face Slinger in the championship game at 8 p.m. tonight.
