ONALASKA – Beaver Dam’s boys hockey team was handed an 8-1 loss in Friday’s opener at Onalaska, a state qualifier from last year.
“The biggest thing that hurt us was our transition game,” Beaver Dam coach Chris Huebel said.
“We gave up too many odd-man breaks and our rebound coverage wasn’t good.
“We missed the net a lot tonight. The kids worked hard but it was one of those nights where everything they shot hit the net and we had a tough time making it to the net.”
Nick Szopinski’s late goal was set up by Tanner Brandsma and Aaron Ehlenfeldt. Nick Pogorelec made 21 saves and Robert Canales added three more for the Golden Beavers, who face La Crosse Aquinas this afternoon.
