MARSHFIELD – Marshfield’s Chandler Roy-Peterson and Naomi Crump each scored shorthanded goals Saturday as the Tigers downed Beaver Dam/Randolph, 4-2, in girls hockey.
“This one’s on the girls on our power play,” BD/R assistant coach Mike Murray said. “We have three seniors and two sophomores that have contributed heavily and not only did they not score, but we gave two up.
“We didn’t get it done. It’s a privilege to be out there on the power play.”
Roy-Peterson’s goal with 45 seconds left in the first period answered a tally from BD/R’s Brittany Baumler. Nikki Copet added a second Tigers goal with 19 seconds remaining in the period.
“We’re up 1-0 even though we took far more penalties than they did,” Murray said. “We made two defensive errors and both of them ended up in our net.”
BD/R (0-2) tied the score midway through the second on a goal from Anne Ulrikson with an assist from Katie Ehlenfeldt. Two minutes later, Paige Johnson gave Marshfield the lead for good.
Crump’s shorthanded tally in the third ended the scoring.
“The girls have to realize that every rink we go in after we made state last year, these teams use us as a benchmark,” Murray said. “Saturday won’t be easy either.”
BD/R heads to Beloit next Saturday.
